The Acrobat

Remember all those Dr Suess books with improbably stacked books, or food, or furniture. Well, let's take an almost 12 year old dog, a bed, an end table, and a six drawer upright dresser. Yep, Linda said she heard a noise when she came over to get them out today, and he'd gotten up on the bed, stood on the end table on his hind legs, balanced over to the six drawer dresser and was into a dish I'd left up there with his anteater tongue. Red will never be remember for his sweet, obedient, well-behaved, housebroken nature.

Naked Dogs and the Go To Bed Routine

Well, both dogs are shaved down. I'll post a picture tonight. A little fuzzy, but hey, it was New Years day.

Picture a retangular full size bed. My favorite spot is the upper right hand corner to sit and read or watch TV. When I say it's Bed Time, Red immediately puts his front feet on the bed. He prefers to not to jump up any more and I encourage him to save his back. So I have to pick him up (we go through a whole cuddle thing when I do this) and put him on the bed. That starts a whole bunch of growling and yipping as he tries to find the spot where he can get under the blankets and zoom, he's stretched out under the blankets on the lower right hand side making all sorts of gargling, snorts, growling and barking, until he settles for licking his front paws. Parker, in the meantime has been running from one side of the bed to the other, trying to find THE spot. He's usually trying for Red's spot, which creates more noise. Now there's half the bed unspoken for and I'll tell him to lie down. He comes back around the bed, jumps up behind me on the three inches of bed left there, and taps me on my shoulder until I move over, lift the covers for him and let him shoot under the blankets. At that time, there's the discovery that Red is there and the nattering escalates. Then I tell them both to GO TO BED, and they realize story time is over and settle down. After getting me to move, and realizing he's sharing air with Red, he gets out, comes around to the other side and taps me on the shoulder again to lift the blankets and let him under.

I get a kick out of it and get heat on both sides. Since I don't run a heater, this is a good thing.
